Kevin William Cowgill
Firstly I want to say how proud I am of my children, Steven and Catherine for the way in which they supported Judy whilst she spent those
three days in the LGI - it was difficult for them all. I have been amazed with the amount of friends Kevin had, people that I don’t
even know who over the last few days have flooded facebook with their comments. All of them said what a special man he was and how much they will miss him - he made such an impression on people and it showed. The hall was full (170) for the Celebration and Thanksgiving for his life.
I loved him to bits - he was one of the most caring, considerate and loving sons one could ever wish to have. When I look back and remember what a difficult adult life he has had, the loss of his business, house, baby Victoria, I can only marvel at the way in which Kevin and Judy laboured on.
Kevin was our first child - he was a concern, even before he was born 12 Nov 1964 . I took Beryl to hospital where we were told that they could not hear the baby’s heart and that I should go home and ring every hour for news. The phone was at the end of the street in Idle.
I rang every hour until midnight when I was told that I should get to the hospital as they were going to perform a Caesaerean. When I arrived Beryl was still in the theatre. As I went into the ward, they brought the baby in, he had been hiding behind a rib.
I remember fondly how Kevin and I used to go around the division as a singing duo, with duets and solos - on one occasion we were asked to be the guests soloists at the Bridlington Spa for the Over 60’s Rally.
Over the last week I have been privileged to read over a hundred e-mails and letters from friends, some known and others complete strangers to me, all saying what a lovely and sincere man Kevin was and how he will be greatly missed. Friends like Lt Col June Jardine and Neil and Christine Webb in Papua New Guinea who wrote ’Kevin was a good and loyal disciple of the Lord Jesus whom they loved’.
Lt Col John and Betty Matear wrote about the ministry of Kevin and the many blessings that he brought. Betty remembered how we used to sing a song called 'born again, there’ really been a change in me'’ She went on to say that now Kevin knows the change from Glory to Glory as in Heaven he takes his place.
One of our favourite duets was ‘I feel good’ all because I’ve been redeemed makes me feel good. The last verse says this, ‘Now I’m on my way to heaven and I’m singing as I go, I’m so glad my name is written in the book, Just to know my Lord has saved me and I’m ready now to go makes me wanna shout Hallelujah I feel good’ I believe that he‘s made it, he‘s there and our loss is heaven and Victoria’s gain -
I thank God for the wonderful promise that for those who are in Christ Jesus, we’re not saying ‘goodbye’ just ‘bye for now’ - see you again one day son'.
Bless you Kevin. Love mum and dad xxxxxxx
